Transformation, Not Reformation Dawn Marie Wilson, January 1, 2026January 1, 2026 I used to make New Year’s resolutions. I sensed my inconsistencies and wanted reformation. Let’s just say I then became inconsistent in my resolutions. I like what Kevin Schaal wrote: “Most people fall flat with their New Year’s resolutions because what they really want is to change the window dressing in their lives rather than things that are at the core of their being. . . . “We don’t need reformation; we need an impossible transformation. No tweaks will do when a miracle is what is necessary. . . . I don’t want a hum drum year ahead. I want God to do His miraculous work in me this year. . . . I need a miracle. And I know just the One who can make that happen.” (Note: source in first comment). An “impossible transformation” is only possible as Father God makes us more like Jesus (Romans 8:29). So here’s what I’m doing this year. I’m making goals and lists of what I want to accomplish—nothing wrong with that.—and I’m organizing for the best results. On the other hand, I know the Bible says God sometimes laughs at our plans (likely when we leave Him out of the planning). My goal is that He will laugh WITH me in my plans—that I will live with greater wonder and gratitude, depending on Him and enjoying, following, and obeying Him step by step so I can show others His glory along the way. This isn’t about legalism; it’s about biblical thinking and heart change. It’s about cooperating with the Holy Spirit and making more space for God to work and be known. That’s what I want in 2026.
